The Hialeah Technology
Center (HIATEC) was established by the
City of Hialeah through its
Department
of Grants and Human Services to perform research, technology development and technology transfer activities in various industrial and scientific
fields, as well as to offer training, vocational and non-vocational programs to
industry and the workforce community in general. It is also the purpose of the Hialeah
Technology Center to contribute to the economic development of the local community
through
training programs and activities that help to improve job skills and secure/retain/create
better jobs, as well as generate new employment opportunities. |

Life sciences is
one of the largest industry sectors in the State of Florida. It includes Biotechnology,
Medical Device Manufacturing, Pharmaceuticals and Health Care companies. HIATEC's
opportunity as an innovative state of the art biomedical research, technology development
and training center is based on the magnitude of this industry sector in the State
of Florida, and in current trends in the high-tech industry and global economy.
HIATEC seeks strategic alliances with national and international research centers
in the pursue of joint research and technology development projects.

Founded in 1925, the City of Hialeah is home
to over 240,000 residents covering a geographic area of 24 square miles.
It employs 1600 employees and has an annual budget of over $202 million.
It is governed by a Mayor/Council form of government, making its elected mayor both
the City Manager and Chief Executive Officer. The City Council acts as the
legislative body, responsible for approving contracts, and passing ordinances within
the City.
